Facilities and Recommendations

Dolphin Accommodation is available all year round and the house and flat are available separately or together for weekly lets (Saturday to Saturday). Out of season, shorter lets may be available on request.

Both the house and the flat have access to a large garden (with a washing line) surrounding the house, as well as parking areas at the front.

Linen, bath mats and tea towels are provided. Bath and hand towels are available for an additional fee.

Main House

This spacious family home provides a large and well-equipped kitchen with an adjacent, separate dining area.  This leads to a spacious and comfortable sitting room with a wood burning stove for cosy evenings and access to a large balcony, from where you can enjoy a 180 degree panoramic view of Loch Broom and the surrounding hills and mountains . The sitting room has large south and west facing windows which also provide outstanding views across the Loch.

These picturesque scenes are also visible from the majority of the bedrooms. A big advantage of Dolphin house is that these communal rooms lead off to two distinct 'wings', each with three bedrooms and a bathroom, so that two families or groups can holiday together but retain some privacy. There is Freeview TV, DVD player and iPod dock in the sitting room as well as Wifi. There is full central heating throughout.

Accommodation comprises one double bedroom with a handbasin and door onto the balcony, three twin bedrooms, including one with a basin, and two single bedrooms. All bedrooms have either a full or partial view of Loch Broom.

There are two recently refurbished bathrooms with toilets, one with a double walk in shower and the other with a large shower-bath. There is also one separate toilet and a small area for boots and coats.

Guests also have the use of a laundry and drying room with a washing machine and drier. There is also a large fridge-freezer in this area.

The kitchen facilities include large ceramic hob, microwave, electric oven, dish washer, two fridges and all necessary culinary equipment.

Flat

This well heated, separate and self contained flat has a living room with Freeview TV, DVD player and Wifi, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and dining area. There are two twin/double bedrooms, one with a basin, as well as a bathroom with toilet and large shower-bath. Both the bedrooms and the kitchen/dining area have views of Loch Broom and the surrounding mountains.

The kitchen equipment includes electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge and all necessary culinary equipment. There is also a washing machine.

Recommendation

Our Dolphin House recommendation (after I think 8 holidays there at 2 yearly intervals!):

There are not many houses that fit 2 families so comfortably, or even 3 when we've had the flat as well. The house splits easily into 2 lots of 3 bedrooms. With the shared generous sized kitchen and the large living room with magnificent panoramic view and balcony over looking the loch, it's ideal for a large party. When we've had the attached flat as well, with another kitchen and living room and 2 bedrooms, we've found a wonderful combination for 3 families or one with grandparents and older children and friends.

It's within walking distance of Ullapool village centre with opportunities for young and old with swimming pool, tennis courts, museum, bars, ceilidhs and music events in the evenings and concerts at the McPhail Centre, not to forget the ferry terminal to the Western Isles!  It's only a short drive to the wonderfully remote West coast sandy beaches and walks around peninsulas and headlands, a day trip to Cape Wrath the most Northern tip of Britain. No need even to drive: above Dolphin house the road leads onto the rough hillside with paths taking you to the top of Ullapool hill, then down to a remote glen or a hill walk into Ullapool. The view from just behind the house back down Loch Broom, and forward over Ullapool to the Summer Isles and the open sea must be one of the best in the Highlands - especially with the sun setting over the Summer Isles, watching the speck of the Stornaway ferry getting bigger as it approaches the harbour way below.

"I stayed in Dolphin House for two weeks this summer and am already planning my next trip. The house is wonderful with stunning views up and down Loch Broom which are especially beautiful at sunset. The house was spacious, clean and homely with excellent kitchen and showering facilities. The walk to Ullapool can be either a 10-minute pleasant walk down the Braes or a longer but more rewarding trip over the top of the adjacent hillside, perfect for a morning run to buy the paper! There are several enjoyable walks nearby, with more famous routes such as Stac Pollaidh and Cul Mor being a short drive away. Overall it was a fantastic experience, and I cannot recommend it enough!"
